A big thank you to students in a 6th grade class in Kansas that are collecting school supplies as a class service project for National Kindness Week — November 11-17! In addition to school supplies they are collecting plush toys for gifts to the children in Guatemala. In January the school supplies and toys will be delivered to Guatemala to help 225 children begin their 2008 school year. I gave a talk and presentation about the Guatemalan schoolchildren to the 6th grade class a few weeks ago and was so impressed with their concern and interest in students thousands of miles away.
This collection by the 6th graders is led with the help of 2 students, Jerynn and Jessica, who have been making proposals to the administration, printing flyers to be posted and even writing an article for the town newspaper.
Way to go Jerynn and Jessica! We appreciate all your help and you willingness to volunteer to help the students obtain an education!!
